FOSTER CITY, Calif. – May 16, 2012 – Parking in select U.S. cities today got a little easier with the release of the next generation of ParkerTM, the award-winning smart parking app by Streetline, Inc.

With this latest release for both iPhone and Android, consumers can quickly view available parking options based on pricing, location, and/or real-time availability. Parker 3.0 also features voice guidance to indicate parking nearby, as well as the ability to find parking based on user-defined preferences such as electric vehicle (EV) charging stations or handicapped spaces. Motorists can also search by points of interest – including airports, universities, shopping centers, featured neighborhoods, transit or hospitals – with new locations and updates being added daily.

Real-time parking information is now available for both on-street parking spots enabled via Streetline’s parking sensors, as well as off-street garage and lot information published by parking operators via Streetline’s ParkEdge garage management system.

“Streetline is laser focused on consumer-driven parking innovation. Consumers want to find the most convenient, quick, and attractively priced parking closest to their destination. Parker 3.0 makes important steps towards that goal,” said Zia Yusuf, CEO of Streetline. “With this latest release, we’ve further enhanced the user experience, adding in new features such as the ability to toggle between availability and price or find a space based on user-defined filters. We also include both on-street spaces, as well as garages/lots. As we move toward in-car navigation and see more and more cities deploying sensors to provide real-time parking data to motorists, we believe the idea of ‘searching for parking’ will become a thing of the past.”

Some of the notable features of Parker 3.0 by Streetline include:

Real-time information in select areas to guide consumers to open and available parking spaces; Parker updates automatically when a car is parked or leaves

Garage and lot information fed directly by garage operators

Access to coupons and parking specials where available

Voice feature providing audible queue when available parking is nearby

Ability to toggle between availability and price, including real time updates as prices are changed or updated

Easy access to rates, hours and time limits for metered and on-street parking where available

Ability to enter an address or search by points of interest including airports, universities, shopping centers, featured neighborhoods, transit and hospitals

Enhanced filters allowing users to set criteria, such as EV charging stations, handicapped spaces, on-street or garages/lots only, or specific payment options (coins, credit card, mobile payments)

Park Now button to note where a car is parked (and later find guidance back to the car), set reminders, take a picture of a car and add notes about the location. Parker also saves parking history data for easy access later

Ability to rate and comment on parking locations and set reminders noting great locations…or locations to avoid

Option to register and pay for parking via mobile payment partners Parkmobile or PaybyPhone

Available for iPhone and optimized for select Android devices including:

Sprint HTC EVO 4G (model A9292)

HTC Droid Incredible (model ADR6300)

HTC Droid Incredible 2 (model ADR6350)

Motorola Droid 2 / model A955 (Droid X)

Additional Android devices will be available on an ongoing basis. For the most up-to-date list of supported Android devices, please visit www.streetline.com.

Parking Reinvented
Streetline is revolutionizing how cities reduce congestion and emissions by tackling a key, but often overlooked, source: drivers searching for parking. Experts estimate that 30 percent of urban traffic is caused by motorists looking for parking. Additionally, vehicle emissions resulting from drivers looking for parking are so closely linked that a year-long study found that drivers in a 15 block district in Los Angeles drove in excess of 950,000 miles, produced 730 tons of carbon dioxide and used 47,000 gallons of gas searching for parking. [*Based on 2007 study by Professor Donald Shoup, University of California, Los Angeles]

Streetline’s patented smart parking platform detects the presence of a car through a network of ultra-low power wireless sensors located in individual parking spaces. By downloading Parker onto a smartphone or compatible tablet, consumers can access real-time parking availability – with icons noting more than four spaces available (plenty of parking), more than two spaces available (some parking), or less than two spaces available (limited parking). The app also delivers information about parking space time limits, pricing, whether meters take credit cards or coins, as well as static parking data for select locations.

Parker 3.0 is available as a free download on Google Play or the iTunes Store. A full list of current locations can be found in the app by clicking on the globe.

And the parking meter? It hasn’t had any dramatic upgrades since it was introduced in 1935 (with the exception of digital readings and pay by credit card). All that congestion leads to aggravated drivers, businesses missing out on potential customers who drive away in frustration, and lots of air pollution. Streetline, a startup that we last covered in 2010, wants to make it so that the next generation laughs when we tell them about the hours we spent on a weekly basis searching for parking.

Green Park & Charge Taps Latest in Smart Parking Technology to Help Electric Vehicle Drivers Find EV Charging Stations

BOSTON, Mass. and FOSTER CITY, Calif. – April 18, 2012 – Finding an electric vehicle charging station in Boston will soon become easier. Today, Dinosaur Capital Partners LLC, a Boston-based real estate development and investment firm, and Streetline, Inc. announced plans to deploy Streetline’s industry-leading smart parking technology at “Green Park & Charge,” Boston’s first fully dedicated electric vehicle charging and parking facility.

Located in the Bulfinch Triangle area in downtown Boston, one of Boston’s busiest areas, Green Park & Charge will transform a former gas station into an eco-friendly facility. Using patent-pending sensor technology from Streetline, motorists will have the ability to access real-time information about open parking spaces available at Green Park & Charge, including information about the real-time availability of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

“Electric cars are gaining in popularity,” said Scott Oran, a founding partner of Dinosaur Capital. “With Green Park & Charge, we are not only transforming a brownfield gas station site into an eco-friendly facility; our goal, working with Mayor Thomas M. Menino, the Boston Redevelopment Authority and the Boston Transportation Department, is to encourage green driving alternatives. We are pleased to be collaborating with Streetline to tap the latest in smart parking technology to provide real-time parking availability to Boston motorists…particularly those looking to find available EV charging facilities.”

“Green Park & Charge will be a state-of-the art parking facility that will become a showcase as other developers across the country look to build eco-friendly parking facilities – and help the U.S. reach its goal of becoming the first country with more than one million electric vehicles on the road by 2015,” said Zia Yusuf, CEO of Streetline, Inc. “Streetline is the leader in smart parking and we’re pleased to be working with Dinosaur Capital Partners to make finding an EV charging station easier for Boston motorists.”

Streetline’s patented smart parking platform detects the presence of a car through a network of ultra-low power wireless sensors located in each parking space. Information from the sensors is then delivered to a suite of web and mobile applications, including Streetline’s free smartphone application, Parker™, to help motorists easily find parking. Once parked, motorists can use the app’s built in timer to help keep track of how much time is left for charging, or access walking directions to help find their parking space when they need to return to their vehicle.

President Obama has announced a goal of becoming the first country to have one million electric vehicles on the road by 2015. Recently, Obama reinforced this goal with the “EV Everywhere” plan, which the White House described as, “a clean energy grand challenge to make electric-powered vehicles as affordable and convenient as gasoline-powered vehicles for the average American family within a decade.” The White House says driving electric will save the average driver $100 a month.

For more information on EV Everywhere, visit: http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/03/07/fact-sheet-all-above-approach-american-energy

Parker™ is available as a free download at iTunes and the Android Market.

About Green Park & Charge
Green Park & Charge will be Boston’s first electric vehicle charging station and parking facility. Located in the Bulfinch Triangle at one of Boston’s busiest corners, Green Park & Charge will be located between the Financial District, the TD Garden, Fanueil Hall, the North End, the West End, and Government Center and directly across from the Edward Brooke Courthouse. According to the Boston Transportation Department, over 35,000 vehicles and pedestrians pass by the site daily—more than 9,000,000 people per year.

Green Park & Charge will replace a petroleum-based 20th century filling station with an environmentally-conscious, 21st century electric vehicle charging station. Pricing policies are designed to encourage green driving alternatives so drivers with electric vehicles or hybrids receive a 10% discount on competitive parking fees. Drivers of SUVs and “gas guzzlers” (vehicles with EPA mileage rating less than 15 miles per gallon) pay a 10% parking surcharge. Vehicles requiring charging park in any available parking space and are plugged in during their stay. There is no fee for charging; motorists pay only for parking.

As the majority of the world’s population moves to metropolitan areas, key city systems, including city streets and parking resources, are being strained to the breaking point. Additionally, vehicle emissions and drivers looking for parking are so closely linked that a year-long study found that motorists in a 15 block district in Los Angeles drove in excess of 950,000 miles, produced 730 tons of carbon dioxide and used 47,000 gallons of gas searching for parking.*

The collaboration between Citi, IBM, and Streetline aims to provide a funding source to bring new technology and smarter parking to cities around the globe. The financing will enable cities to acquire smart parking technology at no initial upfront cost—thereby facilitating adoption and deployment of the latest in parking advancements. Through this relationship, cities will now have the option to adopt Streetline’s cloud-based smart parking solutions on a pay-as-you-go basis.

“City leaders must harness the possibilities of technology and new financial thinking to address critical efficiency reform, modernize urban infrastructure, and provide socially inclusive access to public services,” said Ward Marsh, Managing Director and Manager, Municipal Securities Division, Citi. “With its global footprint, Citi has a unique perspective on the complexities of the urban environment and the financial challenges facing Mayors and municipal CFOs. Working in collaboration with Streetline and IBM, we intend to help cities continue to rethink how they can optimize parking as an important source of revenue.”

With sensors and applications from Streetline and analytics technologies and “Smarter Cities” expertise from IBM, cities can tap historical and real-time data to help them gain a better understanding of the interdependencies between parking and their overall transportation network with other city services. Such knowledge is critical in planning for economic development, merchant services, mass transit scheduling and infrastructure projects, among other key city functions.

Streetline’s patented smart parking platform detects the presence of a car through a network of ultra-low power wireless sensors located in individual parking spaces. This information is then made available in real time both to the city, as well as to consumers via Parker™, the leading consumer guidance app for smartphones, tablets, personal computers and – soon – in-car navigation systems, available free via the iTunes Store or Android marketplace.

“Today, there is a massive amount of transportation data available that can help cities alleviate congestion and improve transportation services, such as parking,” said Gerry Mooney, general manager, Smarter Cities, IBM. “Our partnership with Streetline is already leading the effort toward helping cities re-think parking. Citi is joining our collaboration as we seek to work closer with municipal CFOs to consider innovative ways to optimize parking revenue and deploy new smart parking solutions.”

“Parking is one of those universal challenges that most people around the globe can relate to,” said Zia Yusuf, president and CEO of Streetline. “This credit facility provides Streetline the financial resources to fuel further innovation in parking and accelerate the adoption of new parking solutions by cities around the globe. The support from global institutions such as Citi and IBM is a testament to Streetline’s market leadership and provides additional validation of the importance of smart parking and the traction we are experiencing.”

AUSTIN, Texas, April 3, 2012 — Siemens Industry, Inc. and Streetline today announced an advanced parking solution combining smart parking meters, sensors and applications to provide cities with flexible parking options for residents and visitors while reducing traffic congestion in downtown areas.

Limited parking is a problem in most urban areas and results in increased traffic congestion and emissions. In fact, up to 30 percent of total traffic volume in downtown areas consists of motorists searching for parking*. Siemens’ on- and off-street parking solutions will improve both traffic flow and a motorists’ experience. Additionally, with hundreds of service locations across the United States, Siemens is able to work closely with each city to develop a solution based on its specific needs and provide ongoing service and support during implementation and throughout the life of the system.

“Our new advanced parking solution significantly improves the driver’s experience, enabling them to find parking quickly and efficiently,” says Terry Heath, president, Mobility and Logistics division, Siemens Infrastructure & Cities. “With this fully integrated offering, we can now help cities direct people to open parking spaces, reduce congestion, lower emissions and improve quality of life.”

“Parking is one of those universal challenges that most people around the globe can relate to,” said Zia Yusuf, president and CEO of Streetline. “Siemens understands what cities need to become more effective and efficient. By combining the experience and technology from Siemens with the smart parking sensor-enabled, web and mobile apps from Streetline, we can provide an unparalleled set of next generation offerings to our joint customers. We’re pleased to work with Siemens to tackle one of the most pressing issues facing cities today.”

The advanced parking solution makes it easier for motorists to locate and pay for parking by providing real-time data to motorists through a free smartphone application that guides drivers to available parking spaces. The application leverages information from wireless sensors, which detect the presence of vehicles in individual parking spaces. Once parked, the consumer friendly interface enables consumers to pay for parking using cash or credit cards at the meter or through the application on their mobile device. Additionally, the application’s built-in timer allows drivers to keep track of how much time is left on the meter, add time to the meter and even pull up walking directions to help find their parking space when they need to return to their vehicle. Simplifying the payment process for drivers typically results in increased parking revenue for cities, enabling the city to improve its aging infrastructure in a budget neutral manner.

Further efficiencies can be realized by the city via a central management system that enables operators to remotely monitor parking spaces and gain deeper insight into occupancy and duration, which can be used to optimize parking availability, inform smart planning, and implement demand-based pricing.

“Cities are facing the challenge of aging infrastructure, a growing population and limited financial resources,” says Heath. “Advanced parking is a way for Siemens to help the cities face this challenge. We can work with cities to implement a seamless parking solution that requires little to no upfront investment and will not only pay for itself over time through operating efficiencies, but also could help fund future infrastructure upgrades.”

FOSTER CITY, Calif. and INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – March 16, 2012 – Streetline, Inc. and ParkIndy, a public-private partnership between the city and Xerox, are now making it easier to find parking in Indianapolis. Using Streetline’s sensor-enabled Smart Parking system, Parker™, a free smartphone app, motorists can see open parking spaces in real-time, reducing the time and energy spent searching for elusive parking.

Sensors embedded in the pavement detect when spaces are available. Parker provides the location and general availability of spaces through the use of web-enabled devices, such as a smartphone, PC, or tablet. Once parked, motorists can use the app’s built-in timer to track of how much time is left on the meter, or access walking directions to help find their parking space when they need to return to their vehicle.

“Our goal is to take the pain out of parking,” said David Cummins, vice president parking and justice solutions, Xerox. “We created a customized solution offering credit-card accepting meters, pay-by-phone technology and now new directional guidance apps from Streetline to make parking easier than ever in Indianapolis.”

Some of the notable features of Parker include:

Real-time information in select areas of the City to guide consumers to open and available curbside parking spaces; Parker updates automatically when a car is parked or leaves

“Follow me” navigation with a native map application to guide motorists to their chosen parking destination

Easy access to rates, hours and time limits for metered and on-street parking where available

The ability to enter an address within Parker and view parking options nearest to that destination

Mark areas on the Parker map to keep track of where a car is parked (and later get guidance back to the car), set reminders, take a picture of a car and take notes about the location. Parker also saves parking history data for easy access later

Rate and comment on parking locations and set reminders noting great locations

Option to register and pay for parking via mobile payment partner Parkmobile

“ParkIndy chose Streetline to bring the latest parking technology to the City of Indianapolis,” said Zia Yusuf, CEO of Streetline. “By deploying Streetline’s patented sensor-technology, including the award-winning consumer app Parker, ParkIndy is paving the way to introduce one of the most advanced parking systems in the United States—and making searching for parking for Indianapolis drivers a thing of the past.”

In Indianapolis the system is currently deployed along more than 550 individual parking spots along Mass Avenue, Broad Ripple, and near Monument Circle with plans to install additional sensors throughout downtown and Broad Ripple later this year.

Xerox leads a team, including Streetline, to implement a similar system in Los Angeles. Xerox has successfully managed, and operated parking systems in more than 30 cities in the United States and 88 jurisdictions in the United Kingdom during the past 30 years. Xerox is the largest provider of transportation services to governments worldwide, with projects in more than 30 countries.

Parker™ is available as a free download at iTunes and the Android Market.

About Streetline, Inc.

And when you do snag a sweet street spot, it can feel like a mini moment of glory. In cities, parking signs contradict each other. There’s 7 a.m. street cleaning and odd hours when you cannot park your car (only until 2 a.m. in some places). If you live in a crowded metropolis, then finding a parking spot is likely a task you’d like to see made easier.

As the winner of the 2012 TED Prize–the first to be awarded to an idea rather than a person–TED unveiled its $100,000 “wish” Wednesday evening at its flagship conference in Long Beach, California. “Imagine a platform that brings you together, locally and globally,” explained a short animated film screened during the conference. “Combine the reach of the cloud with the power of the crowd. This year for the first time ever the prize was awarded not to a person but to an idea: The City 2.0. The TED conference organizers convened about 30 leaders in thinking about cities to come up with a proposal.
